In his first comment on the incident of the British destroyer Defender, which Russia says violated its maritime borders, yesterday, Wednesday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that "the destroyer was operating legally."
"I think it was quite appropriate to use international waters," Johnson told reporters, adding: "The important point is that we do not recognize Russia's annexation of Crimea."
The Russian Foreign Ministry accused the UK government of lying about the incident of the British destroyer violating Russia's maritime borders, and the Russian side firing warning shots at it, and expressed its intention to lodge a "strong protest" in this regard to the London ambassador to Moscow.
The Russian presidency also expressed its conviction that the incident of the British destroyer Defender's breach of the Russian maritime border off the coast of Crimea on Wednesday was a deliberate provocation.
This comes a day after the Russian army fired warning shots at the British destroyer Defender after this warship breached Russia's maritime borders off the coast of Crimea.
