Barcelona announced on Sunday the loan of its young Portuguese striker, Francisco Trincao, for one season to Wolverhampton, England, until June 30, 2022, with an option to buy.
Barcelona joined 21-year-old Trincao nearly a year ago from Braga for 31 million euros ($36.7 million), but the player suffered injuries that limited his brilliance.
In the 2020-2021 season, he played 43 games with the Catalan club in all competitions, participating in only 10 of them, during which he scored three goals in addition to two crucial passes.
He participated as a substitute in the two matches of the final price against Paris Saint-Germain when Barcelona bid farewell to the Champions League competitions.
Trincao participated in six international matches with Portugal, but he was not called up to the European Cup, from which his country, the defending champion, was eliminated from the last eight against Belgium.
He will play in Wolverhampton with a team full of Portuguese players, where he also joined his compatriot Nelson Semedo, who moved from Barcelona to "Wolves" last year for 30 million euros, despite the departure of Portuguese coach Nuno Espirito Santo to supervise Tottenham from the beginning of next season.
Barcelona has specified that Wolverhampton will pay Trincao's salary in full.
In an effort to reduce the mounting debt, Barcelona terminated the contract of Brazilian midfielder Matthews Fernandez, who was linked to the Catalan club until 2025.
