Enrique: Iniesta Couldn't do What Pedri did

Spain coach Luis Enrique praised young midfielder Pedri, noting that former star Andres Iniesta could not do what the 18-year-old did when he was his age.

Spaniard Pedri successfully completed all 56 passes over the 90 minutes in normal time at Wembley, and only Frenchman Samuel Umtiti has had a 100 percent pass rate for the most passes in a single European Championship match since 1980.

And he said in the press conference that followed his team's loss to Italy in the semi-finals of the European Cup "Euro 2020" on penalties: No 18-year-old player did what he did, not even Andres Iniesta. His level, his role in the team, his ability to find spaces, his potential and his personality, I have never found any player who does what he does. This goes against logic.

Enrique added: "This is not a sad night for me at all. Of course there is some frustration, but that's how elite level football is. You must learn the culture of winning and losing.

And he continued: We talked a lot about our favorite style of play, and the players felt confident in that, and I can only congratulate them. I don't have any complaints. We showed that we play as a team. Now it is important to recover and we will meet again before the World Cup qualifiers.
