Sport: The Spanish League Refused to Raise the Salary Ceiling for Barcelona

The Spanish newspaper Sport said that the Spanish League rejected Barcelona's request to increase the permissible value of the salaries of players in each team in the tournament.

Barcelona wanted to increase the value so that it would not have to reduce the salaries of players or dispense with some of them, in the event of renewing the contract of its star Lionel Messi.

If the Catalan club can keep Messi (34 years old), it must reduce the salaries of some players so as not to exceed the value allowed by “La Liga”.

And the Spanish newspaper AS said that there are players in Barcelona who refuse to reduce their salaries, and that the only player willing to agree to this is defender Gerard Pique.

While Mundo Deportivo wrote that Barcelona may dispense with midfielder Miralem Pjanic and defender Samuel Umtiti to be committed to the permissible salary limit, in the event of Messi's contract renewal.

The Argentine wizard's contract with Barcelona expired on Wednesday, and the Albaceleste captain has yet to clarify his future.

Barcelona is constantly optimistic about Messi, but he wants it as soon as possible to start preparing for the new season.

Barcelona signed Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia, Memphis Depay and Emerson in the current summer transfer market.

The Catalan team is seeking to compete vigorously for the League title and the Champions League next season, after it came third in the first and bid farewell to the second from the final price round last season.
