Tymoshenko: Ukraine will lose 72% of its territory due to the new law

The leader of the Ukrainian "Batkevshina - Fatherland" party, Yulia Tymoshenko, considered that her country will lose 72% of its territory due to the new land sale law that entered into force today.

She pointed out that "the new law will allow banks with foreign investments to own, exploit and loot agricultural land."

"With the land, banks are allowed to act like spoilers to remove the fertile layer of the land while the state is completely excluded from the use of that land, and from any environmental control... Since July 1, Ukraine has started losing 72 percent of its land," she said.

"The new law violates at least 22 articles of the Ukrainian constitution and deprives farmers of the right to permanent use of agricultural land," she added.

"We will remind the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky and his team, for selling the country's land," she added.

Tymoshenko described the timing of the decision as a "tragic time", noting that "foreign banks were allowed to own agricultural land in the Nezalezhnaya district and remove fertile soil without permission."
