A team of researchers has found that simple exercise can lower high blood pressure similarly to medication.

A new study by researchers at the University of New South Wales School of Medicine has found that isometric exercise, a type of strength training, can help lower blood pressure effectively, according to the Asian International Agency (ANI).

And the agency added, in a report published on Sunday, that this exercise in which the joint angle and muscle length do not change during contraction, for example, such as pressing against a wall or holding a board, differs from traditional strength exercises such as squatting or pushing or those exercises in which it changes Muscle length during movement.

The agency indicated that at the present time it is not recommended to practice these exercises to deal with high blood pressure, which it said is mostly due to concerns about its safety because the nature of these exercises leads to the person’s stability for long periods, which may lead to an increase in blood pressure during exercise, especially when performing it. At a higher intensity, compared to traditional strength training such as weightlifting or exercises such as walking or cycling.

The agency quoted the lead author of the study, whose results were published in the journal "High Blood Pressure", Dr. Matthew Jones, as saying, "The study has shown that doing these exercises is very safe, and leads to significant changes in blood pressure, almost similar to the effectiveness of blood pressure lowering drugs." ".

The researcher added: “These exercises are a time-effective way to lower blood pressure, as a person only needs to exercise for 12 minutes per day, over two to three days per week, to obtain the results we found in our study.”

He continued, “Although the studies we conducted included the use of a specialized device placed in the handle of the hand, it is possible to see the same results simply by applying pressure to the fist with a certain intensity for the specified period of time, and this means that these exercises can be easily performed during Sitting down to watch TV is especially important for people who may find it difficult to perform traditional exercises such as walking, cycling or strength training.

The study also found that doing these exercises also improved other measures of blood pressure including central blood pressure, which is the blood pressure in the heart's largest artery, the aorta, which is an important predictor of cardiovascular disease, as well as average blood pressure over a period of 24 hours. hour.
