Google has announced the “Chrome OS Flex” operating system that was designed on old computers, making it ideal for educational institutions and small businesses, as a step as it works to create an operating environment that has an impact in reducing the global e-waste problem.

According to The Next Web, you can boot Chrome OS Flex using just a USB drive, and it only takes a few minutes.

This development comes after Google acquired Never ware in 2020, which made it possible to load the Chrome operating system on old devices with its Cloud Ready program, while there was a report indicating about Google merging it directly. In Chrome OS.

Device Requirements to Run Chrome OS Flex:

Intel or AMD x86-64-bit compatible device
Internal Storage: 16 GB
USB bootable device.
RAM: 4 GB
BIOS: full administrator access

While this system cannot run on devices with ARM processors, such as Macs running the M1, and because ARM-based systems are newer, most can run modern software, and do not need to be compatible with a lightweight operating system.

However, Google warns that Chrome OS Flex can give you a bad experience if your system uses components made before 2010.

In addition, if you cannot boot directly from the USB drive, you may need to modify the BIOS settings.
