Determine The Quality of Dog and Donkey Meat Before Purchasing? |
Some women have a tough time spotting adulterated meat and telling it apart from the real thing when they buy it because they are unaware of the most obvious changes.
In this regard, Dr. Amr Mostafa, a former dean of Cairo University's Faculty of Agriculture, advised against purchasing meat from street vendors, pointing out that the majority of it comes from donkeys and dogs.
During a phone call to the journalist Ahmed Moussa's "On My Responsibility" programme, Mustafa revealed the findings of an analysis he had just completed on 60 samples of meat that were available in the markets, noting that all of the tainted samples originated from street sellers.
He noted that 11 samples came from pork, with the final two coming from horses and two from donkeys.
Evidence of Dog Meat
In a related context, food safety expert Dr. Mai Taj El-Din verified that there are many distinctions between dog meat and conventional beef, most notably:
- Dog meat has an unpleasant smell.
- Dog flesh has a slimy texture.
- Dog meat typically has a dark red colour.
- The fat in dog meat is grey in colour.
- Cooking turns dog flesh black.
Donkey Meat is Evident via Signs
Taj Al-Din claimed that the following indicators make it simple to tell donkey flesh from ordinary meat:
- The hue of donkey meat is crimson.
- Meat from a donkey has broad muscles.
- flesh with coarse fibres.
- Fat from donkeys often turns yellow.
- When cooked, donkey flesh has an awful smell.
